Clifton and Pendlebury Deserve Better!

A Message from local Conservative campaigner Jillian Collinson:

Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury - and across Salford - have been let down and taken from granted by the Labour Council.

Millions of pounds of your money have been wasted on the failed congestion charge. Labour’s response to these difficult economic times is to spend more money on glossy magazines. Tens of thousands of pounds were spent subsidising an ice rink.

Local residents are paying more and more in Council Tax but the Labour Council is not listening and does not deliver on basic services like fixing our broken roads and clearing littering hot-spots.

That’s why last month, the Cosnervatives on Salford City Council called a motion of no-confidence in the Labour leadership of the Council - which was not supported by Swinton and Pendlebury Liberal Democrats.

Residents in Clifton and Pendlebury deserve better - it’s time for a change!

Conservatives Propose Tax Freeze For Residents

Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury will face another year of rising bills after Salford’s Labour Council pushed through yet another increase in Council Tax. Salford’s Council Tax has now risen by a shocking 86% since 1997.

Conservatives proposed a freeze on Council Tax but this was rejected by Labour Councillors and not supported by the Liberal Democrats.

Conservatives recognise that in the current economic climate many local residents are struggling with their bills, and believe that the Council should do everything it can to reduce the burden on hard-working taxpayers in Clifton & Pendlebury. A Conservative-run Council would:

  • Freeze Council Tax
  • Scrap unnecessary Council expenditure, such as Labour’s glossy propaganda magazines.
  • Freeze Councillor allowances and slash the number of “special allowances” for Councillors
  • Reduce use of expensive outside consultants
  • Prioritise spending in areas of real need, like our neglected highways, the local environment, education and care for older people

Jillian Collinson, Conservative local campaigner, said:

“Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury are paying too much in Council Tax and yet are still receiving a sub-standard service. These constant rises are hitting residents particularly hard in this period of recession. It’s time we had a change!”
