I would like to thank all the residents in Clifton and Pendlebury who voted for me in the recent by-election. I was very disappointed not to be elected as I would have worked tirelessly for the whole ward.
I was deeply concerned to learn that a large number of residents in Clifton feel that they live in the forgotten and neglected part of the ward. I can only hope that they begin to receive the standard of services they are entitled to and their Councillors will take the time to listen to and act upon their concerns.
Kind regards,
Jillian Collinson
On Thursday, local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury will have the chance to choose a new Councillor. For many years the local community has been let down and taken for granted by the Labour Council - Labour do not listen to local residents.
Your Council Tax has now risen by 86% since 1997 and is one of the highest in the entire country, but what do you get for your money? The Labour Council can’t even look after the local environment properly by clearing litter and fly-tipping and our highways continue to crumble from lack of investment - that’s before the £22 million of taxpayers’ money wasted on the failed congestion charge bid!
This Thursday, you have the chance to make your voice heard. If elected as your Councillor, Jillian will be a strong voice for local residents in the Council Chamber, and she will always listen and put the views of the community first. It’s time for a change - vote Conservative!

North-West Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim joined Jillian Collinson and the Conservative team in Clifton and Pendlebury this weekend. Saj and colleagues delivered newsletters and talked to local voters in Clifton.
Jillian’s profile has now been uploaded to interactive local by-election site Votewise. Click here to view Jillian’s Votewise profile.
Don’t forget - at the last election there were just 149 votes between Labour and the Conservatives.
The LibDems were in a poor third place - a vote for them just helps Labour get back in!
It’s time for a change in Clifton and Pendlebury - only Jillian Collinson and the Conservatives can beat Labour here!
For too long, Labour’s stranglehold on Clifton and Pendlebury has been taken for granted. How many times have you heard “I do not vote because it won’t make a difference” or “I never vote, Labour always get in around here”? Well, this is not true any more - last year we gained more seats than any other Party in Salford. With your support, the days of Labour being able to take Clifton and Pendlebury for granted will soon be gone.
In Salford we have an excellent team of Conservative Councillors and Jillian will be a valuable addition to our team. She is already involved with the Council as an independent member of the Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee and as Chair of the Respect & Behaviour Commission.
So if you care about a safer neighbourhood, a good school for your children, the repair and maintenance of our roads and pavements and tackling the financial mismanagement of our City, then do not allow the Labour Party to take you for granted at this by-election.
Just look around and see if Labour are worthy of your vote, or is it time for a change? If so, please give Jillian your vote!
A huge thank-you to all the residents who returned the recent community survey - there has been a huge response! Jillian Collinson has read through every single reply and she is working hard to address all the issues raised by respondents.
It’s clear from the responses that local residents feel that they have been let down and taken for granted by the Labour Council. At the by-election on March 19th, the local community has a clear choice between hard-working local Conservative campaigner Jillian Collinson and the candidate of a Labour Party who have ignored residents in Clifton and Pendlebury.
Jillian will be a voice for local residents on Salford City Council, not the Council’s mouthpiece in Clifton and Pendlebury!
What you’ve said…
- The overwhelming majority of respondents did not think that the Labour Council listens to them - Jillian will always listen to local residents and put their concerns first.
- Local residents feel their Council Tax bills are too high - Conservatives proposed a freeze in Council Tax this year, opposed by Labour and not supported by the Liberal Democrats.
- Residents are not happy with the state of their roads and pavements - Labour have neglected our highways for decades, Jillian Collinson thinks fixing them should be a priority!
A Message from local Conservative campaigner Jillian Collinson:
Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury - and across Salford - have been let down and taken from granted by the Labour Council.
Millions of pounds of your money have been wasted on the failed congestion charge. Labour’s response to these difficult economic times is to spend more money on glossy magazines. Tens of thousands of pounds were spent subsidising an ice rink.
Local residents are paying more and more in Council Tax but the Labour Council is not listening and does not deliver on basic services like fixing our broken roads and clearing littering hot-spots.
That’s why last month, the Cosnervatives on Salford City Council called a motion of no-confidence in the Labour leadership of the Council - which was not supported by Swinton and Pendlebury Liberal Democrats.
Residents in Clifton and Pendlebury deserve better - it’s time for a change!
Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury will face another year of rising bills after Salford’s Labour Council pushed through yet another increase in Council Tax. Salford’s Council Tax has now risen by a shocking 86% since 1997.
Conservatives proposed a freeze on Council Tax but this was rejected by Labour Councillors and not supported by the Liberal Democrats.
Conservatives recognise that in the current economic climate many local residents are struggling with their bills, and believe that the Council should do everything it can to reduce the burden on hard-working taxpayers in Clifton & Pendlebury. A Conservative-run Council would:
- Freeze Council Tax
- Scrap unnecessary Council expenditure, such as Labour’s glossy propaganda magazines.
- Freeze Councillor allowances and slash the number of “special allowances” for Councillors
- Reduce use of expensive outside consultants
- Prioritise spending in areas of real need, like our neglected highways, the local environment, education and care for older people
Jillian Collinson, Conservative local campaigner, said:
“Local residents in Clifton and Pendlebury are paying too much in Council Tax and yet are still receiving a sub-standard service. These constant rises are hitting residents particularly hard in this period of recession. It’s time we had a change!”

Commenting on her selection, Jillian said: “It is an honour to be selected as the Conservative candidate for Clifton and Pendlebury. I am passionate about ensuring that Clifton and Pendlebury are safe, secure and happy places to live, grow up and work”.
